Tobacco burst, cutaway, super-shallow bowl, round soundhole with an ugly, glued-on plastic rosette (?), has no little oval foil tag, but inner bowl is stamped "Ovation USA". iDEA electronics with a silver bezel. Serial number is 2553139. Seems to be in pretty good condition, with 1 pretty good ding on the horn, otherwise just filthy with greasy fingerprints and 100 year old, dead strings. Took pics, but can't upload them here at work. Used instrument store is asking $399. Thought that seemed like at least a decent number to start negotiating from?

To narrow it down a little: Checking out the Ovation website, This has to be pretty late-model 'cause the preamp is the iDea OPI-1. Just don't see one like it in the shallow- or super-shallow model listings... Ok, sorry, so I exaggerated on the age of the strings. Carbon-dating places them in the 60-80 year old range... I won't be home until tomorrow afternoon; I'll post these pics then.

but inner bowl is stamped "Ovation USA".
All Bowls say Ovation USA in them... Even Celebrity's.
(I am not sure about the new VL's or Applauses)

iDEA electronics with a silver bezel.
I have never seen a silver bezel, even OP-20 and OP-30 have a black bezel.
(maybe it was painted) Does the preamp work?

Serial number is 2553139.
Made in Asia somewhere.

Didn't the guitars that sold with the VIP sell new for around $499?

Jon, I got a really sweet '84 collectors I will sell you for $850 and then your GAS will be over for a while.
Do a search...you will see that many considered the '84 collectors to be the best of the series.

I considered that it could be a Celebrity, but can't find any evidence they ever came with the OPI-1?

You are right about the bezel. Looked back at my pic, and this one looks exactly like the one pictured on the website under "electronics."

I am going to go back to the site and research serial numbers...what are you using as an indicator it's Asian-made? Do the 7-digit numbers correspond fairly relatively to the 6-digit numbers?

I was a little short on time, so I didn't sit down with it and plug it in. Maybe I will have time Saturday afternoon. This shop is pretty close to Brad's, and I'll be over near there anyway...

OMG! Maybe it's a Celebrity iDea! Wow, sometimes my stupidity amazes me! Nevermind. No longer interested. Stephen, I might be interested in your '84.
