Just got home from same-day surgery. They had to fish out a lima bean-sized bio-marble from my knee and repair the meniscus a bit. End result? My leg is completely immobilized from groin to ankle. I can't even sit up straight enough to play guitar, which is a shame as I'm certain it would be strangely entertaining in a pain-meds-make-everything-sound-pretty-cool kind of way.

So I imagine I'll be online quite a bit for the next few days. What do y'all wanna talk about?

When my back went out I played laying flat on my back in bed. Where there's a will there's a way...

My advice is to always double the dosage on pain meds. Add a shot of Jack on top and you'd be amazed at how great your pickin' sounds (to you anyway). Seriously, after 18 major surgeries I learned long ago docs always prescribe narcotics waaay too conservatively.

+1 on the Lying on your Back and playing.

Don't you have an SSB or an Electric or Something?

+1 on "Where there's a will there's a way."  -  Prop up enough comfy pillows to lay at a 40 degree angle, take an extra pain killer, grab an SSB and play something upbeat... oh yeah, and record some and post it for our entertainment too!

Here's to a speedy healing Patch.

US vs offshore models... hmmm, that ought to be an interesting topic  Smiley

the wife had the same surgery done 2 weeks ago to the day and she is getting along just fine . the thing that bothered her the most was the bruising from the tourniquet they use on you during the surgery.
she was up and doing fine in just three days and started going to therapy as of yesterday.
your therapy will be playing that guitar.
patch in a couple of days you will be out kicking some *** .
heal fast and good luck to ya .GWB

Get mended soon, Patch! And yes, there's gotta still be some way to play... you'll figure it out.

Thanks guys.

It's not that bad really, and it's nice to have a bulletproof excuse to ignore everything on my to-do list. I can get myself to the john and such, but I expect to be reasonably mobile by mid-week. I might even try to teach on Tuesday, which would be an interesting lecture if I'm still medicated.

Ironically, that course is called Social Problems, and we are smack in the middle of the chapter about healthcare.

Hope you heal quickly Patch. Doing anything on pain meds sucks if you ask me. It may all be good while your on the meds but then you have to listen to your better half, kids and grandkids about all the stuff you did or said while you were on the meds. After my last surgery had a family get together and I feel asleep with food on my lap. I'm still hearing about that one. Prayers are with you Patch.

Hi Patch, hope you're up and (slowly) about soon. I've had 2 knee surgeries - you should be on the guitar soon.

You're just trying to get out of shoveling snow, aren't you! Take it easy on yourself and listen to some good music for a few days. I hope you get better quickly!

Hi Patch.

I hope you recover and are able to play soon.

FWIW, I had surgery to repair a torn meniscus about 5 years ago. It worked well, and I've never had any problems since. I hope yours is as successful.

Cheers, Banjo
