Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Not sure about the "ar33" but a gtx33, or rather the whole gtx line was an offshoot of Kaman in the 80's. They are fantastic electric guitars and many shredders loved them for their style. The only issues were to show up later in the form of neck warp usually, based on the woods and probably lack of curing at the time. If the neck is straight and it plays well now... it'll be fine. That's essentially the test. If it made it this far, it will last. It was a case of they either went bad on the first temperature change or they lasted. Because they weren't expensive, they lent themselves to being refinished, experiments in electronics etc.. As they didn't have fancy vol/tone configurations, and ones like the gtx33 had individual switches for the pickups, you could swap out pickups in about 20 minutes or maybe less to try something different. Lots of potential for personal flare, and at the base was just a basic, bolt-on neck, solid body guitar that was sturdy enough for gigging and had the style of the times. |
