I have owned lots of the major brands of guitars (Taylor, Martin, Larrivees) but recently have become interested in getting an Ovation. I love Cat Stevens and just can’t go into a Guitar Center without picking up an Ovation and not breaking into ‘Peace Train’. From some quick Googling I see that he played a Folklore 1614/1617, 12 fret, 2” fretboard.

My thoughts and the reason that I have joined up is to research and enjoy Ovations. I love the necks and the 1 11/16 width. I don’t have a need for amplification so I was wondering if there are Ovations out there that don’t have electronics and are just suited for acoustic playing.

There used to be a guy on Youtube name ‘mjsokes’ who did Beatles covers/instructionals and he just rocked a tan Celebrity Ovation (with cutaway) but I don't know the model number but I'm going to try and find out as that would seem ideal. He pulled his videos after a while tho so I can't go back and check.

Anyway, good to be here. I love talking guitars!

Rob

Hello backwards robsters, and welcome to the club. I've updated your status, so feel free to post throughout the site.

FYI, Cat Stevens played a few different types of Ovations, but Yusuf Islam seems to have forgotten all about them.

I wonder if Ovation isn't glad it turned out that way.

And welcome to the group Rob!
