Those of you who read my past post and buying an almost mint UKII will remember this picture:

I used Mothers Back To Black on the bridge ... applied to the left, untreated on the right:

It's been awhile now, giving the treatment time to fade away. But no fading. I treated the right side only so we could compare a recently treated area to a week old treated area (on the left). I'd say this stuff is pretty good.

Excellent find. This has been a topic of UKII owners for a LONG time... There have been a few ideas over the years, but this seems to work the best I have ever seen. Thanks !!!!

Now, I finally get to try it out on the extremely faded neck pickup surround! I can already tell it's gonna be a slow job though ... Q-tips. Don't want to buff too much because of the thin gold plating on the screws.

Oh, almost forgot ... we need to thank SOBeach for suggesting its use on a guitar. He had used it in auto detailing and thought it was worth a try.
Great big HUGE thanks!!!!!!

It sure worked wonders on the auto trim.

If you are going to go through the effort you might as well just remove the surround from the guitar. It's just the four screws then you can take the pickup and switch off as well. Easy peasy in the scheme of things.

OK, before you scroll down to see the finished plastic restoration on my UKII, I need to say something. First, thank you CKKeller for posting about this guitar being available at the Mobile,AL Guitar Center. Second, thanks to SOBeach for turning me on to Mothers Back To Black plastic restorer. And lastly, thanks to Miles for not only his advice on removing the pickup surround, but also for providing a place for Ovation fans to interact and help each other. (Is this beginning to sound like an award acceptance speech?) You guys made it possible for me to aquire an absolutely beautiful guitar.

Now the "before" and "after" pictures:

Wow, that really looks great!

I'm going to have to add a bottle of Mother's B2B to my guitar-cleanup supply box.

"Gold plating on the screws" huh? My UKII pup screws look more like they're rust-plated…

I wonder if they make "Mother's Back to Gold"?

So.... Over time how has this stuff held up. Is black still black?

Everything is just like in the above pictures. But, I haven't been doing outdoor gigs ... basically just flourescent lighting.
Seriously, it has held up beyond my expectations.

I found a bottle of it at my local Walmart in the auto detailing section. Guess I should have noted that previously.
