Every now and then, I turn the "soak" up almost all the way on my Carvin Vintage series amp when playing my Legend. The soak is the preamp overdrive. It gets a nice electric sound doing that. I can't imagine I'm the only one playing an acoustic in electric mode.

Oh... you mean when playing an acoustic. I saw the title and thought it odd as overdrive is the heart and soul of electric guitar. The question is not if we use overdrive, but how much and when.

Occasionally on the EA Viper, but I prefer switching to a guitar with magnetic pups.

I have a couple electrics, but some times, I just twist the dial up on the acoustic to see what it will do. I have a Boss distortion pedal as well, but I haven't gone that far. The amp is a tube amp and it has a good sound on it's own.

I use an overdrive on occasion for a couple songs with the acoustic but just in some parts, like man Who Sold The World (Nirvana style), and a couple of Jack White tunes.
