I am thinking of selling my Adamas 1 - 1587-7 that I purchased new a LONG time ago.
Serial #3780-92 which I think puts it at 1983 when I purchased it.
I had the electronics upgraded years back by sending the guitar back to Ovation to have it done. Looks like it was original. I can't seem to find the model of the preamp - it is rectangular, has a 4-band EQ, a built-in tuner, notch filter button and knob, plus volume knob.
Guitar is in great shape.
So.... how do I find out what the value of this thing is so I can decide whether to sell or not?
In the years since owning this guitar I have actually picked up the hobby of building acoustic guitars - so I would like to possibly sell this guitar so I can purchase some materials to build a guitar for myself and my son.

Is it rare? Is it popular?
The best way to get an idea of what your guitar might sell for is to use the "Completed Auctions" feature of eBay Search to see what similar models have sold for recently. Other online resources include www.gbase.com and www.guitarlist.com. Your best bet, unless you need it appraised for insurance or other reasons, is to try and ask yourself "How much is this instrument worth to me?" More value related resources include the "The Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars" and "The Blue Book of Electric Guitars" both edited by S. P. Fjestad and available in paperback by Gurney Brown. Location: Utah | Values vary a lot. A whole lot! Week to week you'll see winning bids all over the place on eBay. I think it is safe to say that you'll get less for it than most of us think it is "worth", presuming it is in good shape. Used Ovation/Adamas prices are just low compared to the quality and sound of the instruments. I've seen Adamas guitars for less than $1k on eBay, and well over $2k.
Your best bet is to follow what Mr. Ovation quoted above. Figure out what the market is, and then think about what it would be worth to you to keep it. A lot of us have decided we just won't part with a guitar for what this recession market will bring. Definitely set a minimum price you can live with so you don't have it taken for a ridiculous price. |

Location: Lincoln, NE | For as long as I can remember I have dreamed of building a guitar. Somehow that dream materialized in May of 2008 when my son and I went to PA to spend a week with a well-known builder (at the time) and built 2 guitars with him. 10-12 hour days - 6 in a row. Pure pleasure.
I am now playing the guitar I built when onstage with my band. It is an Amazon Rosewood/Sitka Spruce guitar with and LR Baggs LB6x pickup - run though an outboard preamp.
I love the sound and the feel.
The Adamas served me well for many years - but now I'm into playing guitars that I build.
What a trip!
So... now I'm thinking of selling the Adamas so I can purchase some Brazilian Rosewood to save for a pair of guitars my son and I will build in the future.
