How do you adjust the intonation of an Ovation ? With an electric, with adjustable bridges, it's easy. My 1617 needs a little help on the low E. I have to tweek the tuner if I put a capo on it. I don't think I have too much relief on the neck. I could see replacing the little saddle pieces over the pickup, if they were separate, but they are not.

What are the tune-up specs for the neck, on a 1671, just to double check things ?

IMHO you should expect to tune after putting on a capo

I did find an Ovation owners guide, online, which gave the specs:

I think I am probably within those specs. While the change of pitch is most noticeable on the low E, most of the strings go a bit sharp at the 12th fret, when compared to the harmonic at that fret. Roughly 12 -15 cents.

Agreed. It makes a difference where you put the capo as well.

I took it to my local guitar repair guy. He gave a few strings some back side filing on the nut and gave the truss rod a small turn. I think the intonation is still not perfect at the 12 fret, but all the strings change evenly so the low E no longer stands out as being off. A worthwhile $20 and 15 minutes.

I bought a G7th capo and it doesn't make the strings go sharp. The only con to these capos is, if you bend a note it stays bent. But it really is the best capo for intonation. I haven't had it long enough, but I would like to see what it does to my frets. Another great help is to buy an Kyser electric guitar capo. It works great for Ovations because the necks are closer to electric guitars and it works better for your intonation than their regular capo.

I have an ancient Dunlop capo which can be attached at an angle instead of parallel to the fret. This seems to improve intonation issues.
