| Ive heard certain guitar polishes/cleaners are not suitable for pre 1995 guitars due to a change in laquer after that year,is this a myth?If not what`s recommended for pre 95 guitars?What cleaner can be used on the bowl,mine is pretty funky as it was gigged hard and it stinks of tobacco! |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Early vintage "other" guitars (Gibson, martin, etc.) had a LAQUER finish that you shouldn't use regular polish on, but Ovation finishes, either the early polyester or the later polyurethane are fine. You can use Lemon Pledge or any other polish on them and they'll be fine.
But the BEST way to polish any guitar (unless it's REALLY dirty) is just the way you'd clean your glasses - a little puff to get your breath moisture on them in a small spot, then wipe with a soft cloth. I reccommend an old white t-shirt. Go from spot to spot and remove those fingerprints that way. Any type of polish you use will leave just a little polish behind and promote more fingerprints. |

| Ive read conflicting views on using silicone based polishes like Pledge,apparently if one needs to get any repair work done the price is more than doubled as the presence of silicone makes a normally straighforward repair extremely difficult.Another myth? |

Location: Massachusetts | I've used the Martin guitar polish for years, but lately I've found that Mequire's auto detailer works great and holds up for a long time. |
