Hello all. I came across a ratherer battered Ovation acoustic a few years ago. It was only £150 and despite it's dings played and sounded great so I bought it. Missing main label it still had a small rectangular label inside with "OVATION 294337" printed on it - dates it back to 1983. Unfortunately it came without a case and has spent the years casually hanging
around the house, leaning against walls etc - at least accessible and played a lot. However,it has been vulnerable to such accidents as dogs running into it, the occasional BRI ( Beer Related Incident) etc.

Time has come for me to live up to my responsibilities and take more care of this guitar. I am inow in the market for a hard case. My question is how do I know if the guitar is a deep, medium or shallow bowl? Indeed we're Ovation making these variations?

Is getting a deep bowl case and padding it out a reasonable solution?

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,

There are basically two case sizes, deep/mid and shallow.  Without seeing your guitar I'd guess deep/mid.  Shallow bowls are exactly that, shallow.  Measure from the top at the soundhole to the back of the bowl and post it here.  Someone can tell you for sure.  BTW, I like your BRI comment, I may use that myself.  Welcome to the group.

Nick

Sorry bit delayed getting back to you!
Depth of guitar as measured from soundboard to back of bowl is 6"!

Photos pending - bit dark and gloomy here!

Pictures! Had a couple on file and took side profile just now. Again can you tell me whether this is medium or deep bowl? Measures 6" in depth.
Cheers Jim

You would need a case for a deep bowl, i.e. 8158 or 9158.
