Hi all,

I'm Patrick, a Frenchman who's been living in G.B. for a long time...

A friend brings his Adamas SMT sometimes at the local pub jam night, played on it a few times and loved the feel and sound but his price was probably a bit high...

Then this Mill. CB came to my attention and I took the plunge... Had to sell plenty of my fave motorcycle bits to make it mine, but what the heck...

No joking, it's been sleeping in its case for the last 12 years, just cleaned it, but was just wondering what to do to make sure it's not too dry after such a long rest, neck specially, never had a decent acoustic so don't quite know what to do???

Thanks for any advise,

Patrick

Hi Patrick,
Fortunately, humidity affects the Adamas less than most guitars, but it is important to keep it humidified because of the wood in the neck and braces. One of the tell-tale signs of a dry Adamas is the frets protruding from the edge of the neck. Here's a bit of good information from the FAQ page. I hope it helps and welcome to the group!

Q: I've heard about problems with proper humidity. What's the
proper humidity for my Ovation, and how do I make sure it stays at
that humidity?

A: Rapid changes in humidity are more damaging to a guitar,
but prolonged exposure to either too high or too low a humidity
level can also harm your guitar. Guitars are best kept in at least
45% relative humidity, but not more than about 65%. You can buy a
good hygrometer (a gauge for measuring relative humidity) from most
large music supply retailers. If you live in an especially dry
climate, or have forced air heat in the winter, the humidity in
your house can drop to as low as 20%. You can either keep your
guitar in its case with an in-case or in-guitar humidifier (like
one from Planet Waves), or use a room humidifier to keep the entire
room at the proper humidity level. Excessive heat is another enemy
of your guitar: NEVER leave your guitar locked inside your car or
trunk on a warm day.

Thanks for the welcome, Nick,

No, the frets are flush with sides of the neck, so nothing to worry about I suppose... Here in G.B., plenty of ambient humidity...

Nice guitar!

You asked for advice so I'll give you a little spillage from my fountain of knowledge...

Never leave guitar cases out - when your better half trips on it you know have 1 case + 1 Guitar = Too many #$%@&% guitars...

Tune often...

Never loan your guitar to someone that doesn't have some kind of cool toy to give you after they break your guitar...

Always tell your your Woman they are way more important than your guitar.

Tune often...
