Hi!

You'll see from my previous post that although I've been around music all my life as a bass player, I never picked up guitar about 10 years ago and, like my basses, have acquired a few for the stable.

I recently purchased an Ovation Celebrity Model GC 057M from my local Guitar Center. The setup was "acceptable" out of the box but after a trip to my local tech yesterday, it plays even better after dialing it in.

Anyway, I'm curious about a couple of things with this guitar.

As I understand it, this model is a Guitar Center exclusive so, Ovation doesn't list it on their site but, as near as I can figure from the link below, it seems to be an equivalent to the Ovation Celebrity Model CC24-RR.

http://www.ovationguitars.com/guitars/product/celebrity_cc24_4_5_rr

Would that be a correct assumption or is there another model that it more closely resembles?

Also, visually, the Ruby Red color is so rich, I'd like to keep it from getting all scratched up from pick marks so, is there any reason why I couldn't put on a clear pick guard to protect the finish?

Thanks for all the help!

Probably could be a category unto itself...

Pick Marks or Pick Guard?

Equivilant to Ginger or Mary Ann.

saw these two listings:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/ovation-celebrity-gc057m-mid-depth-acoustic-electric-guitar

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ovation-Celebrity-GC057M-Mid-Depth-Acoustic-Electric-Guitar-105946289-i1550573.gc

The GC listing specs don't indicate the bracing type, fretboard or bridge woods, so not certain if they're the same model or not.

A pick guard?  Thought those were illegal on Ovations. Just kidding.

IMO - Mary Ann!!!

none at all if that is what you want to do to protect the finish

you would not need a pickguard if you had good picking technique

The fretboard is Rosewood and the bridge is Walnut. Same as the CC24. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the bracing was the same but, different descriptions were used.

Trying to find the article but can't seem to locate it now.

Lapetrarca, you are probably right.

I believe that originally the GC057 was the same as the CC057 with a different preamp.

Then Guitar Center decided that they needed a mid-depth bowl, hence the GC057M.

Why that is different from a GC24, I don't know...

Except that the GC057 is much less expensive... so, maybe no figure maple top?

Oh... And I wouldn't look for any real logic, it is just Marketing.
