Hi there,

I own an Ovation New Adamas II (6581-5-HG, 13260usa, 9110) deep bowl cutaway, built in 1998, with an Optima preamp/tuner.

I had some problems in the past with the neck becoming loose from the body, which was fixed by the local Ovation dealer workshop (unfortunately not within their warranty!).

I now have a problem with the preamp, which is using the 9V-battery very, very fast. I mean, you put in a new battery and after just a few minutes of tuning, the red LED lights up, telling you the battery is exhausted.

I am also facing servere problems on stage, because everytime I plug in the Ovation to a PA, it starts humming and buzzing and I cannot play this guitar. Sometimes it works, though, but most the time it doesn't or it just stops during a gig.

Anyone knows about this and could give a hint? Should I exchange the preamp (by which type, where to get it, how much costs?)

Thanks you for helping me out on this, regards

Peter

Welcome. I'm not an expert in these things, but have you had anyone look at the plug jack?

Peter, welcome. I've updated your status so you can post in the main forum. Most people are over there. Also, if it comes down to replacing the preamp, you can always let people know you're looking for one in the for sale section.

Best of luck to you. My Adamas II is the best sounding guitar I own (to my ear anyway).

Get someone who's handy with a multimeter to go over it first, particularly the plug jack, as that would cause the battery to drain when there's no cord plugged in.

I don't have an answer for your question, but if you move it over to the main bulliten board, you will surely get some good input. Good luck to ya' I'm sure that's a great guitar. 'Just needs a little kick in the pants to get er fixed.

This is probably a great post to reference and should help you find the culprit...hopefully the jack.
