I recently purchased an Ovation CC057 to use around the house and as a backup for my Yamaha acoustic (which I dearly love). I have an old cracked Ovation, now my camping guitar, but it's been years since I plugged one in. When I play the new one, it's too bright and "out front" in the mix. I've tried various things to dial it back, but to no avail thus far.

Anybody here willing to share some EQ tips?

Peace,

String type(s) will effect that brightness too. Is the OP20 working okay?

The OP20 is working, but it doesn't quite to the trick for my problem (the EQ end of it). I have had some success with my Boss GE-7 (notching specific frequencies), but not entirely happy yet. Just wanted to know if there are any obvious tips/ideas that I'm missing.

Peace,

Turn it down?

Push the pre-shape button in... That mellows-out most OP- preamps.
(OP-Pro, OP-30, OP-24+, and the OP-20)

And like the man said... Different strings.

Cut the mid-range to almost zero. Then play with the bass and treble until you get the sound you want.

Yup. What she said.

Also, look thru this link. You'll find an article on settings that might give you some ideas.

Thanks all (a lot). So I did a few things. First, I turned the guitar down (at the guitar) to around 3. Second, I cut the mids at the guitar and the amp (Roland AC-60). Not to zero, but scooping each of them some had good results. Third, I notched a few frequencies with my GE-7 to taste. I just did a soundcheck for our show tonight (I play some acoustic, some electric), and I was very pleased. Big improvement from where I was.

So thanks!

Peace,

I keep my guitar flat. The only time I will EQ is if I hear something missing or if feedback occurs. With feedback I will lower the volume first and then adjust one of the bands to balance the sound.
