The new Sweetwater catalog has a one page ad for Ovation. "Hardcore acoustic guitars"
"Intensely driven by today's hardest rockin' players" Pictures of Shadows Fall, Laguna Coil, Mick Thomson, and Atreyu. Can't say I've heard of any of them or their music. Is FMIC trying to get headbangers to make Ovation their acoustic of choice?

Also, one page ad for Takamine. "Takamine, The Hardest Working Acoustic Guitars in Showbusiness." Pictures of Toby Keith, Garth Brooks, Glen Frey, and some woman I can't identify.

From an earlier thread... Lacuna Coil mentioned before Fender finalized the deal...

There was a link to Lacuna Coil playing at a CD signing on the Ovation Website. They had Elite T's.
They are kinda Goth misery rock.

Watch and Hear them...

I've heard of 3 of them. My son's band is opening for Atreyu next week at Taste of Chaos.

I like it. Always liked the Ovation ads that featured (mentioned) rock stars.

Jas - when is the 7 Story Fall limited ed. coming out??

Nicky and I both enjoyed the CD - moreso the instruments than the vocals. The vocals are more my oldests style. Thanks again!

can't say that I've heard of any of them. This must be a sign of getting old.

At GC last night a kid was playing an Ovation and a Breedlove. He said he liked the Ovation, but he hadn't really heard of them and thought the roundback was weird. I started giving him a bunch of statistics, but stopped and just said, you don't play the fancy back, but you pay for it. Gave him a little of the theory and history (I didn't mention any of my heroes, because he wouldn't know them) and sent in a salesman to close the deal. I don't know if he bought it. It wouldn't surprise me if the GC sales guy blew the deal after I left.

Well, I only know who they are cuz Guitar World keeps me up to date on names, and my teenage son annoys me by playing it.

I suppose it's no different that mentioning Alex Lifeson, or Heart, or someone back in MY day.

The BIGGEST difference I've seen so far with Fender's take-over is the spike in advertising, another full page Adamas/Lukather ad in this month's GW.

Well, why not? The acoustic purists speak of Ovations with disdain while they drool all over their Collings. Might as well take a shot at the Death Metallurgists.

Ahhh...scuse me. I happen to love my Collings but I still have plenty of Ovation/Adamas that I drool on and play weekly.

Somehow, Stephen, I would hesitate to call you a "purist". A fan of exquisite guitars? Absolutely. But "pure"? Stop, you're killing me.

I understand. I like my Taylor and have had a few Martins I liked (I don't drool over guitars or any other tool). The purists of which I speak don't consider Ovations serious instruments and wouldn't touch one with gloves on. Those people are not here.

Here is some guitar research I have been doing in my free time.................................... http://www.13thfret.com/luthiers.shtml
I know that Ovation is spoken here AND Ovations sound is as great as any pedigree, but all though the world is round it is a very big world by human standards. It is ok to dream and it is better to make a constructive sound and hope someone hears it.
