Hello all. I have a 1980 brown burst U.K.II that came without the pick guard and I am thinking of adding one. Anyone know where I can get one?
Thanks, Will.

I don't, but I bet one could be made. Are you sure yours was supposed to have a pick guard? They only came on the early ones.

Hi Damon67. Your right I could have it made. Also mine is one of the later ones and was not shipped with a pick guard I just like the look of it. By the way I finally got a chance to take some guitar polish to it and man did it ever come out nice. All the best, Will.

Damon, my UKll is white with out the pick guard, do you by chance know why they decided to remove the pick guard from later models. Personally I would not want one, I was just wondering.

I don't know the specific date, maybe Mr. O does. They went out with the bowtie inlays. When I first got my UKII, I saw a couple pictures in the older ads and thought I wanted one too, but that went away quickly.

I like them better without.

I think it depends on the finish and how the guitar is used. I have an early bowtie model in the subtle sunburst brown tobacco finish with a pickguard. I think looks o.k. with it. On the Koa topped VXT, I wouldn't even consider it (not that they even make a pickguard for the VXT). Prettier finishes need to be seen unless you typically strum hard with abrasive picks or nails. Then the pickguard serves a genuine protective purpose. I don't consider myself to be a hard strummer, but all of my pickguards have obvious pick marks, so they're serving their purpose.

I seem to recall Beal mentioning people were just taking them off anyway. They are an extra expense to put to on. Some of the early post-pickguard models, if you look closely, still have the starter hole in the finish where the pickguard would mount. It's very tiny, but I have seen in on several that obviously never had a pickguard.
