Location: Scotland | Well observed Eman. Don't get me started. While I think the Beatles/Harrsion/Lennon & McCartney etc etc etc, were/are icons, the obsession needs to stop right about now. The Beatles are entrenched in the public psyche because 1) they are true talents and 2) because the industry and the general public are TOO F**KIN' LAZY to find anything else FOURTY-ODD YEARS AFTER THE BEATLES QUIT MAKIN RECORDS.
There's a ton of incredible stuff out there, GO FIND IT!
Move on. Please. |

I have not heard that Paul bought back the rights. I did hear, somewhere, that Sony is now a co-owner of the catalog along with Jackson.
Paul... I'm afraid all that new good music out there is only going to be heard by the people who stumble onto it. Ever since the disco era I've been waiting for the next golden age of music. What with corporate radio and the effects of the internet I don't think it's going to come around any time soon. Those years between '65 and '75 were a freak alignment of the planets that will never be duplicated. At least in our lifetime.
Corporate radio... our own little version of the BBC?
I one way I like this recent bout of commercialisim. When Brian & I play out the older crowd says, "Oooo.. songs I grew up with!" and the younger crowd says, "Oooo.. there's that song from the car commercial!". |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Well, I'm about to make some of you angry, but I hope you'll forgive me. I never liked the Beatles very much. While all my friends were raving about them, I was listening to John Mayall and Frank Zappa. I thought they made the Beatles sound like bubblegum music, (even though that term hadn't been invented yet). The first (and only) Beatles album I sort of liked was Abby Road.
As far as new music goes, I thought the early 90's had some potential. I pretty much turned the radio off in the mid-70's, disgusted with the likes of Bachman Turner Overdrive. I only listened to college stations. Then one day I heard this great song with acoustic guitar and a deep rich voice. Turned out to be Stone Temple Pilots' unplugged version of Plush. I liked it so much, I started listening to commercial radio again. I discovered Pearl Jam and Nirvana, and best of all Alice In Chains. It was great for a while, but things went downhill pretty quickly.
Now I'm in the mid-west, where there ARE no college stations. My choices are country stations, or NPR. So I listen to classical when I have the radio on, play my Zappa albums and Alice In Chains CD's, and mostly, just play my guitar. |
