Joined: June 2007 Posts: 100 Location: Delaware | Am I supposed to remove the strap everytime I put my 1711 back into the case? Even with the cutouts around the body of guitar in the case, the strap seems to make the case difficult to snap. I don't want the strap to press against the guitar too hard. What's the standard operating procedure for this?

For me, generally all the straps stay on my O's when they go in the case ... but I use fairly thin (no padded) straps. I remove the top of the strap only (leaving the strap attached to the bottom strap button), run the strap all the way up the bowl and neck, lay the guitar in the case (the strap rests in the neck cutout under the neck) and fold the top over the peghead and attach the top strap hole to one of the tuner posts. The cases close fine for me, and the process has worked for many years with no problems. YMMV. Some guitars/cases (mostly non-O's) don't work so well so the straps have to come off.

Anyone owning an original slothead or 47 RI should be interested in this. Al had some custom straps made that have special attachments to connect to the nose ring on these slothead guitars. VERY COOL. And as usual, the quality of the straps from Longhollow Leather is supurb. Sorry for the blantent plug, but these are just too good not to boast about. I've got three - one on each slothead. Dave

I would agree wholeheartedly and would recommend them to anyone. Let's face it - you can never have enough ammo to piss the kids off.

I did not give it to my son, Bailey Jr., when I gave him my Viper. He will have to join and buy his own, which I will strongly recommend. Bailey

I have one GREAT acoustic guitar, a Jap copy of a Martin D42, three very good mandolins, and a 1966 Fender Mustang with custom pickups by Seymour Duncan, (the mustang used Strat pickups so it is pretty good sounding). He is "Probity" on "garageband.com", and "Probity1" on youtube.com, where you can see him playing the Viper on one of his songs or more. Bailey Jr was our first born in 1958, do your own math as to his age. Bailey

Used some Artec pups(10.5 Bridge, 6.5 Neck) and I hope to set it up tonight. I'm glad you still have your fingers on the fretboards! Anybody planning a little Southwest OFC gatherings? I would love to get with you and some others. Probably need a litle daylight in a couple of months.
