Location: Boise, Idaho | A ragtop has to be cloth. Hardtops take up too much space. That's an old picture. I like the one I posted on the Ovation Gallery better. It's the only 99 Collector's pictured on there, but apparently never posted that one here. |

Around here an expensive ragtop would be on it's way to Nogales before you could say "Hot Tamale". I guess from Boise they'd run out of gas well before they reached the next closest signs of civilization.
Folding Convertible Hardtop does provide a small degree of protection but yes when retracted eats up trunk space. Our old one was a 2 piece top which wasn't bad. Maybe consumed 30% trunk space. The new one is a 3 piece top (just like the old shiny bowls) and retracted you lose at least 50% of the trunk. No way you could carry a set of golf clubs in the trunk with the top down unless it was a very small bag. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Full size bag with shoes in the back trunk. Top up or down doesn't matter. It doesn't affect the trunk space. Golf cart, practice club and shag bag in the front trunk. Just send a bit of that warm weather up and I'm ready to go.
Since this is about guitars, though, I can't fit a guitar in the case into either of the trunks and there's no back seat. They're my passenger. |

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | My ragtop has the glass rear glass and goes into the trunk but probably only takes 15% of the room....it will also fit 4 adults somewhat comfortably and 2 sets of clubs in the trunk (or one ladies overnight bag!).
My TR7 had the plastic back window and I hated it. I kept it unzipped most of the time cause I could never see through it. Glass rear window is the only way to go! |

Location: CA | In my eye, the 2005 Collectors are the prettiest Ovations. Why? Because they're the only Ovation round-hole guitars with soundhole trim that befits the elegance of the guitar — rather than the typical gaudy plastic ring that detracts from it on every just about every other round-hole model. Sure wish it came in anything else besides a contour bowl. I swear the simple trim on economy models — even Applause — looks more "right" to me than that cheap plastic thing.
I also like all the exotic wood models, so it would be hard to pick a favorite side-holer, although my new-to-me Lusty Red 1778T is kinda like the that pretty girl next door who stands out for her natural beauty in an ocean of lipstick and eyeshadow. |

Location: Chicago | Just phenomenal. There is something SO ORIGINAL about Ovation. Nothing can touch it, if you are touched by the exotic. Let's never forget that Ovation was, hands down, the all-time pioneer that got acoustic out of the folkie ghetto out to rock and jazz: front-and-center, ON RECORD and ON STAGE in the hands of monster guitarists. The beautiful woodcraft here is a worthy tribute, visually, to this phenomenal "O" achievement. |
