Location: NJ | does anyone have any 1G or larger pc133 memory they don't need?
I have an old celeron 733 mhz server I am trying to use to record and I have buffer errors. the guy that gave it to me said it has 2 G but it only has 256 x 2 so I think that is the problem.
I know I should go out and get a new MB or computer or whatever but I really just want to make sure all this crap works before putting out any investment.
I think the buffer issue is related to the memory
so to recap
celeron 733 mhz
pc133 (currently 2 x 256)
MOTU 2048 (cuemix for the pci 346 card)
sonar (I think it is v 5 but not positive)
I have 2 HD's 150g and 30g so plenty of HD space
help me to cross this one off the resolutions.

Location: NW Washington State | I don't think I have the memory- can't remember what's in that box! Maybe a couple of 128s or 256s. Can your board use more than two?
I might have a little faster CPU depending on the socket you have.

I am rather sure it is an intel board but I am not real positive of the number without taking half the machine apart.
I just hate to spend any real money on this if the whole thing is not going to work in the end. at least if I could get it up and running I can make some decisions later |

Location: Crossville, TN | Without the motherboard specifics or the server brand and model #, I can't tell but with a 733 mhz processor and pc133 memory, 512 MB is quite possibly the max memory for this computer. The plus is that it us a server, so it could have a better motherboard and more capacity, but Need more info to make sure.
On another note if it is maxed out at 512, you might be able to go into system management and shut down all extra programs that are hogging the memory, anyways thats something to look at. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Al you really should pop the top and get the brand and model of the motherboard. It's stamped pretty close to the memory sockets so if you can see them, you "should" be able to see the make/model of the board.
Then try this site http://www.computermemoryoutlet.com/
or this one http://www.memoryx.net and look it up.
I have bought memory from both of these sites recently, but also once you find the memory you need cross-check the price with Tiger Direct.
TD was way more expensive on most of the memory I needed, but on one of my Laptops, they turned out to be by far the cheapest.
There are so many variations of memory now, it's not funny. Buffered, unbuffered, ECC, NON_ECC, ??Mhz, DIMM, SIMM, SDRAM, 168 pin, 144 pin etc etc..
If I recall correctly, some of those two-socket boards REQUIRED two chips, some did not.
Anyway, just look up the right one first. It will save you more time in the long run. |

I don't recognize that number. I did a websearch on it and didn't come up with alot. Miles is right, you should be able to see the make and model of the board. once we know the board info, we will know if it is upgradable or is maxed already. |
