Location: Michigan | I really thought that GFR was one of the best garage bands that made it to the big time for a short while.Great songs and many great albums & memories that seem to be just good old Raw Rock & Roll without any special effects.This clip seems to remind me of the good old days of a
guitarist
piano player
drummer
bass player
and they ROCK without any special effects except amplification & reverb.
Way to cool to go back there.GWB

Whoa, cool flashback, Stephen! I didn't think anybody remembered those guys. The band I'm with in my profile pic had "D.O.A." in the songlist for a long time. We did plenty of top 40 but we had some obscure self indulgent tunes, too. Would you believe all 14 minutes of Todd Rundgren's "Utopia"? :eek:
Only two Grand Funk tunes we did were "American Band" and "I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home"

Location: Minden, Nebraska | I saw GFR in Omaha 4-5 years ago (we were given free tickets and had a free night). Vocals were by a guy named Max Carl (who grew up here in Nebraska and ex-.38 Special), guitar by Bruce Kulick (ex-Kiss), and a great keyboard player named Tim Cashion (or something like that). The band was tight and the sound was decent, and they did a credible job with their old songs.
But as stated above, it wasn't special and nostalgia only goes so far at arena rock volume. Alas, I long for the nostalgia of old... |
