Location: Scotland | The pre-Edison recording has been known for quite a while now. The theory of wire recording preceeded Edison too. Who cares? None of it had any impact. It was Edison's work that made mass production of recordings possible, and Berliner who significantly improved upon it. And that's why they are more important. The mass production and distribution of recordings, coupled later with the promotional posibilities of radio in the early 20's created huge cash-cow empires, back when printed music created millionaires, long before the term "download" existed. How times have changed. |
