Guess I was bored. I've got a Kamaka ukulele with a Fishman pickup installed. It's passive and you need to plug the uke into an external pre-amp. I use a Fishman GT-III. So I'm thinking wtf would happen if I could somehow plug the uke output into the iDEA pre-amp?
Couldn't just use the Aux input of the iDEA because the uke output is not line level and I didn't want to play along on guitar, I wanted "uke on uke". So I took the iDEA pre-amp out of it's guitar and stuffed it into a spare "can", all naked just laying on my desk (err, the pre-amp, not me). Quick trip to radioshack for parts and I president rigged an adapter to take the 1/4 output from the fishman uke pickup and feed it into the pickup-in jack of the iDEA.
Bingo - I plugged in headphones and I could record the uke onto the iDEA. And then I could play it back through the headphones, while playing along live also on the uke. All I need is a little clip to mount the iDEA on my belt and I'm all set. I'm gonna make another trip to radioshack and PR an adapter to take the output jack of the iDEA right into a 1/4 female that I can then connect to amp/mixer.
I told Moody he can borrow my iDEA for a while. Little does he know he's getting it pre-loaded with ukulele tracks.
This is just sick ... but fun. |
