Dear Abby, is it the shape of the fretboard on the 1581 that causes intonation problems with my Kyser? If I get it in tune and slap the Kyser on the 2nd fret, then play a G chord, the top string (A note) is sharp. Tell me what to do.

I had the same problem on it with my Kyser, Jas. I don't think the Kyser and the 1581 neck are a good match.

+1 on the Shubb. Or a G7.

No probs with a Victor. The arched bar may have an impact.

This is one of several reasons why I won't use a non-adjustable capo such as the Kyser. Kysers will work perfectly on many guitars, but there will be some set-ups where the clamping pressure is too strong (or too weak) for the string guage/action/neck releif/fret bead height and that will cause problems. There are a ton of capos such as the Shubb, G7, Victor, Paige and others where the clamping pressure is finely adjustable. Any of those should solve your problem

Try a Planet Waves NS Capo. They are finely adjustable, and very small and light.
[And Cheap! :D ]

Alittle bit bigger than this photo.

The curve is the issue. I may need a rubber pencil. I'll head over to Eddie's Trick Shop and get one. I was needing some fake bullet holes and a whoopie cushion anyway. I am just about out.

Spring loaded capos will give intonation problems. Period. Although I use one just 'cuz it's so easy ...
