Hey guys, I recently got picked up an old Ovation Ultra Series (1528) at a local pawn shop for $120. A great deal, considering that it also came with TKL hard case.

Anyway, I reckon the reason it was so cheap is because of the extensive electronic damage.. There is no volume knob, and what is left of the pick up/saddle has sunken down so far that it does not even make contact with the strings; the strings rest on the wooden edge of the bridge.

I am having quite a time finding ANY information on how to go about repairing this, or where I can even get a replacement pickup/saddle. I was hoping ya'll might have some info that could help me..

Here's some pics so you can better understand what I'm talking about.

Hi! That is just the bare pick-up.
You need to find a replacement saddle.

This is the piezo with the saddle removed...

Piezo Bridge and Saddle...

Or just get a whole new bridge

Those are photos of an old bridge that was sent to me so I could just get the saddle.
The whole bridge has a wire with a connector hanging out of it.

Maybe someone here might just have a saddle.
But unless you are SURE that peizo works, I would just get the whole thing.
Check eBay or contact the MotherShip (New Hartford Factory).

OR... Here is one! But you would need to find a preamp.

Are all of the ovation pickups a standard size? Mine looks a bit different than the one on the ebay auction... although if that one would work, $17 is a steal..

There is a hole in the body where a volume knob used to be. if I shine a flashlight through the sound hole I can see the wires from both the output plug and the pickup just dangling there

A local music shop told me it would cost $100 bucks to fix. I am hoping to be able to get it fixed alot cheaper.. Any thoughts or recommendations about how to start doing this?

Actually, I am not at all sure about that eBay pickup.
It says "Ovation" in the listing, but it has "Washburn" printed on the back.

Plus, those OPP (Ovation Patented Pickup) have two plastic pins on the back.
But all of those kind of Ovation pickups are the same size.
But there are a few different types of Ovation pickups.

I would look for a whole preamp and pickup combo set... Here and on eBay.
I have seen them with preamp, bridge pickup and output jack.
But that will usually cost you a hundred bucks or so, or more.

Like I said... Someone here might have a one-knob preamp and pickup.
You just gotta wait for them to wake up.
The east coast folks oughta be waking up in a few hours.

So, is the saddle just supposed to rest on the pickup, being held in place by the force of the strings?

Could I just get a saddle for now, pop it in place, and just play it un-plugged until I have the resources to get the electronics running?
