Does anyone know why there were so many "refurbished" ones? Was there a specific problem/recall of the line?

There are many definitions of FRG.

I have no idea what Ovations definition is. The only example I can give is my local bagel shop. Every day they make large batches of bagels. Sometimes they don't come out "quite right" but are still perfectly usable. He calls them "bagel boo-boos" and sells them for a reduced price. People buy them because they appreciate the value and know that deep down inside they taste the same as the perfect ones. But some people can't bring themselves to do it, and they paid the full price for the perfect bagels, which is fine as well. Sometimes towards the end of the day if business has been slow, the shop might be faced with an overstock of perfect bagels. Rather than wait until tomorrow and sell the excess inventory as "day old bagels", which truly ARE bad, the shop will call the overstocked perfect bagels "bagel boo boos" and mark them down just to move the inventory.

I have no idea if the guitar industry does similar things.

My 03C is an FRG but it's probably the most perfectly made Ovation I have. I cannot see a single thing wrong with it. Nothing, nada, zip, zilch.

The only way you would know is from the label!

I have no doubt in my mind that the FRGs are nothing but perfect, as they have been run through the QA process a second time. To me that actually reassures they are good-to-go. I am just wondering why they had so many that had to be "reconditioned"? ... With all that said ... I just noticed that my direct line out jack doesn't seem to be working on my NON-FRG guitar and was wondering if that was a noted problem. I am not looking forward toward having to send the guitar in and be without it.

since yours is full warranty don't worry about it.

you are just not getting what is being said to you between the lines.

I can't find any flaws in my FRG K1111 Reissue either and the fact that one dealer had at least 4 of them on ebay 2 years after they were released makes me think they were like Dave's perfect bagel boo boo example. I suspect the only thing that gets reconditioned is the warranty.

I assume you mean the 2007 BCS and not the 2008 Adamas Collectors. I did puchase a day-old one of these and can't taste the difference. I have acquired several day-old Ovations which have all proven to be remarkably delicious. The only Ovation that had a quality problem for me was one I got hot out of the oven, so (as they say) "there you go". But I do stay away from those guitars that come from "dealers" with USED stamped into the headstock. I don't like finding hair baked in my bagels, even if they only cost a dime. I have a hair-trigger gag reflex.
