Thanks, Stephen It was a good night in Gainesville. Was up pretty late celebrating. I'm more excited about the arrival of my 1538, though ;) :D

Plus JB says I should have my 1619 back from the spa in time for the jam.

Yes Serge, Congrats!!!
It will be a long time up here in Uconn Husky territory before we can even dream of a Football National Championship. You want to play a little Basketball?? ;)

Bob, are you forgetting UF's back-to-back NCAA B'ball Championships ('06 and '07)? In '06 UF became the first school to hold both championships at the same time. Granted, that was a special b'ball team, but we'll be competitive in March again when the current team matures a bit.

But enough about college sports, let's get back to what's really important in life - guitars! :D ;)

Serge, I have not forgotten about that. Kuddos to Florida and Billy D. I was thinking about a more "fair fight", unless of course we are talking about the Women's team. :)

How are the gators the champions? Didn't Ole Miss beat them?

That would make Ole Miss better than Florida, right? And Texas Tech is better than Texas. And Oregon State is better than USC.

So who's better than UTAH? I can't seem to remember who beat them ...

An imperfect system for sure - kinda like US Presidential elections in recent memory where a "winner" by one measure is the "loser" by another (no vacation please, Al, just making a comparison) - but it is what it is. I favor a playoff system, but even that's too complicated for the conferences to agree on.

Aw, I'm just disappointed because it was a poorly played game and pretty boring unless you're a die hard fan of either team. Same with the Fiesta bowl. I was there and it was a snooze fest except for the last 60 seconds. USC probably played the best of any team in the country right now. Up by 30 at half time Coach Carrol had enough respect for JoePa to take his foot off the throttle. Losing by 60 in probably his last visit to Passadena isn't the way a legend should go out. Anyway, yeah it is what it is. AP poll got it right - majority of people voted Fla number 1, but certainly not all. And those that placed USC or Utah at the top certainly had good arguements as well.

Btw- a "playoff" isn't complicated at all. You just get rid of the championship game as it currently exists and go back to the regular new years day bowl games. No automatic berths, top 10 teams populate 5 new years day games. After those games you do more more "BCS ranking" and the top 2 play it off the following week. The added interest in the existing bowl games would be huge.

Dave - as a former linebacker I thought it was a great game (Go D)! :D

You're right, Carroll was a class act. You're also right that USC and Utah have legitimate claim to at least a share of being called the best college football team in the country.

I was being facetious with my "too complicated" comment; I'm pissed at the bozos who head the conferences refusing to do something just as simple as you suggest - although some of it has to do with the coaches who think their chances are better under the current system.

Beal - I grew up in Florida - what's hockey?

I did have a guitar in my lap and played it during most of the game (yeah Dave, it was a badly played and boring game until late in the 3rd quarter).

I had a laptop in my lap the whole game, wasting time on ebay. I don't care for the Florida schools. Don't know why. Maybe jealousy. I didn't like Oklahoma either, because they always beat us up at Kansas State. Now they have a former K-State coach, so I suppose that tempered my dislike.
The one thing the bowls proved is that the sportscasters don't know squat. I believed them when they said the Big 10 was weak this year, the Big 12 was the strongest and the Pac 10 was so-so. The showing by the southern Big 12 schools, the Pac 10, Utah and Iowa in the bowls proves that the polls involving sportscasters are just as invalid as polls involving Joe Public.

Here in east Tennessee we have the Lady Vols. They can probably beat the mens team.

Oh yea, Go Titans.

The wife receieved a very nice DVD set about Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for Christmas. It was called 'Running Down the Dream' and I recommend it to any Petty fan. The whole first disc is a bio of him and the band. Anyway, I didn't know it before, but he was born and raised in Gainesville and played his first gigs there, with several return engagements at the UF football stadium.

Congrats g8r!! Your team was the better last night (and yes, I pulled for them the whole way).

Sorry Mrs. g8r, that the U of F is in USuC's division and therefore the GAMEcocks will never have a game at all. We can discuss next weekend! :D ;)
