I just broke one now and I could literally feel the wind crumble against my hand as ball popped off, cant be the strings fault at this point.. string sleeves?

Might want to ease the edges of the entry hole with something like a miniature rat tail file. Mini file sets can be found in hoby and craft departments and are really handy to have around, btw.

But if the strings are unraveling from the ball, you got crappy strings. Even if you were tuning an octave too high, the ball-end shouldn't unravel/unwrap/fall-apart... I would think that it would just break, cuz I have broken one-or-two high E's before. [and my share of 'G' octaves! ]
