Just got my new buttons from Rothesay music. I do believe he is a member of the this board, but forgot his name! These are SUPERB quality, I'm very happy and impressed. I got a set of ebony for my 2078 which I'm so happy with. I never liked the "perloid" buttons it came with. Just call them plastic, please. The walnut's I got for my 1680 are beautiful as well, but the color is a few shades lighter than the walnut of the guitar, unfortunately. In the pics, its hard to see the color difference, which I guess is a good thing. Also didn't realize that the buttons on the 1680's were "mini" buttons, and I"m liking the fact that the new ones are larger. I took pics of the 1680 with only one side done.. I think I like the change, any thoughts?

I think they look great on that guitar. Did they come from Scotland?

Beal stained his walnut buttons. I think I'm going to do that as well to try and get them to match the guitar better.

Great looking guitars there!

I put Paul's walnut tuner knobs on my 1581, now residing with Captain Lovehandles. Beautiful and very high quality(the tuner buttons, not Jas). I also put a set of Paul's koa knobs on the Tacoma that went back to TJ. Paul's tuner buttons are top notch.

Looking great. BTW "Rothesay" is Paul Templeman, and if any of his guitar playing mojo gets transferred to his buttons, you're a lucky man.

Glad you like 'em! The ebony buttons look great on a black guitar, especially with a black headstock face.

If the slight color mismatch on the walnuts bothers you too much they will darken a little over time with use. If you don't want to wait you can shoot a coat of laquer over them. Hobby stores sell small spray cans of lacquer used for plastic model kits which works fine, but don't overdo it. Randy (Lanaki) did this. He'll be able to tell you exactly what type of lacquer he used. There's some before and after pics somewhere too

No need to stain the walnut buttons, just a couple of applications of wax and they match my 08C perfectly.

That'll work too, but please, be careful with applying oil or wax to any of the wooden buttons. If you overdo it there's a slight chance the wood may swell a little and the metal bushing wont grip properly. A light coat of lacquer is safer.

When Paul recently "came over", he brought a set of koa and tortie mini's over for my koaLA . . .

The koa's were REALLY nice, but it was just "too much koa" . . .

The tortie's look absolutely STUNNING on the guitar! . . . sets off the tortie binding and blowhole rosette very nicely!

I'd post a pic, but the camera's on it's way t'DaytonaBeach w/Jeanette . . .

ThanksAgain,Paul!!

I have some walnut ones on my Ding-O, and some rosewood ones on my Lakewood. Both are killer, and the quality is much better than the ebony and pearloid ones I've purchased from other places in the past. But when I saw PT in Moodyville last week and he showed me his entire sample kit, the ones that totally knocked me out were the grained ivoroid ones. If you have any guitars with high-quality grained ivoroid binding, these are the ones to get.

Ditto on the grained ivroid!!!
VERY Nice!!!

I've got a set of walnut ones on the SlotHead, but I need t'give 'em the LacquerShor t'match the 30+year walnut neck.

I would assume that the match is better on the dingO's, as they're newer wood . . .

Ditto on that, don't know if I thanked you enough for that Jack, but THANKS! They are first rate!

They are first rate: I have a walnut set on my 47RI and I did the lacquer treatment and they look stunning...there is a prior post about this: 47 Dress Up

I prefer the smaller ebony buttons on the 1680. They just feel a little more precise and look less obtrusive than the ones you have there.

I didn't know that Paul. Thanks for the information. Luckily for me I was really stingy (because I didn't want to have to clean the rest of the machine head) and used a teeny-tiny amount.
