A painter who, during his life, never achieved overwhelming critical acclaim yet, gained wide-spread popularity. Living in the Philly area much of my life (Wyeth's life long home was in Chadsford PA, just outside Philly), I've always been aware of him and on more than one occasion visited the Brandywine where a large collection of his work is shown.

His paintings often struck me as, "dreams I'd rather not be having"- which made them ever more intriguing to me...

I had met Andrew Wyeth a couple times, he was a true gentleman. My uncle did a lot of carpentry work at Wyeth's Chadds Ford property, so I got to tag along sometimes. I was a young boy at the time and my favorite memory of those visits was the time I was allowed into a loft play area in one of the buildings on the property, it was where the son, Jamie Wyeth had stored all his "GI Joe" collection. He had every style GI Joe made, from the scuba diver to the German soldier. He also had every accessory made for Joe from the military jeep to the helecopter. I played with that stuff for hours. Man that was fun. Man that was A LONG TIME AGO !!
