How much should I expect to pay to have my frets replaced on my 1767 legend? I spoke with one local shop over the phone and the gentleman said he would most likely not just do the worn frets (first 6) but all of them and then plane (?) and dress them. Cost about $300-350. I am going to see him to get an exact cost but does this seem reasonable? Is he correct about replacing all the frets? Thanks in advance.

I took an 83 Collector's in, thinking it needed a couple frets replaced. The luthier said I had plenty of fret left, so he dressed them all, tweeked the truss rod and lowered the action for $85. It played nearly as well as my 1537.
He really was reluctant to give a price over the phone, because there is so much variety, based on the condition of the guitar. Have someone who does the work eyeball it.

There's a guy (Norm Martin) in Chadron Nebraska who did a re-fret on a '73 Strat for a customer of mine (I DON'T do re-frets!) and only charged him $85. This guy does great work and he's honest and a real gentleman. Any time I get a job I don't feel qualified to do, or don't WANT to do, I send them to him.

I'm not saying you should send it to Norm, but if you google "guitar repair", you'll find many sites that tell you the average prices of just about any repair you can think of.

Aren't the Frets that Ovation uses still proprietary?

For similar money, I wouldn't have anyone but the factory touch my guitar anyway.
