For the THIRD time in as many years Ebay locked my account and says someone tried to hack it...

Goodbye Ebay, enough nonsense, never again...

Well at least give them credit for trying to stop fraud.
I'd rather have them freeze my account than deal with ID theft.
What if you opened a whole new account?

Fine. I can open a new account, but lose all my buying history. I was 100%. They provide more security in asking me to verify my own account information, than the security they provide in actually keeping my account information private.

Are you sure the message is real? I got a message like that once and blew it off as spoof. Nothing happened and we all lived happily thereafter.

Anytime I get a message from ebay or paypal I send it to their spoof department and ask if it is a real message. I have yet to receive one that they verified as actually being from them.

Happened to me also. Check your eBay messages on 'My eBay'. If it's real, then that's where it will show up!

Oh, I don't know. In the last six months alone I must've had a dozen people from various African nations offer me vast sums of money to help them get their money out of their war-torn countries. What could possibly go wrong?

steve, you should verify the message as bogus or not. i've received those messsages from "eBay" before. they all appeared official but were all bogus. it's a phishing scam. people will respond to it and end up sending their actual info to the scammers.
if you cannot access your eBay account then it is probably official.

I got some sort of malware on the laptop at home last night and a variation of the Nigerian letter this morning. I feel so special. I don't have enough money for anyone to waste time trying to steal.

I'll bet he clicked the link in the message to log in to check his account.

However, if it's legit, send me your credit card number you used to verify via email. Include the security code on the back, your zip and your full name. I'll get your account re-instated as it was.

Um... errr...

To anyone that thought my post was even remotely legitimate, it's a safe bet you either have already had your information compromised or you will.

My post was PURELY SARCASTIC and should have been recognized as such clearly. You NEVER NEVER EVER give those three pieces of information freely TO ANYONE EVER especially online.

I cannot believe that in 2009, with all that has been on the news about identity theft and computer fraud, anyone would have thought my post serious.

Of course, there are people that think getting your account locked by a corporation that thinks your financial information is at risk... is a BAD thing...

<--- shaking his head.

You should just be able to change your user name and password, and still keep everything.

I have had three names and passwords in the past two years or so...

[My first user name was My Name... Believe it or not, that is not good!]

Like Miles said, it is good that they stopped your account. They should have sent you an email.

I'm 95% sure that everything I read on the internet is true. For example, Brad, did you read that "Sarcasism" is sarcasm by a narcissist?
Sarcasm doesn't play well in any printed matter. I've had some interesting issues with sarcastic letters that became evidence. People were much more careless with emails for awhile than they ever would have been with letters.
