Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | Two-and-a-half Years Ago... I got a bunch of books from Portland Music before I had a computer.
Now I get most of my quick tab/chords from the net, even though I have them in books on a shelf.
It's quicker.
BTW- Portland Music on SW 10th was dedicated to sheet music of all kinds.
Big Bands, Broadway Shows, Musicals... Violin, Piano, Clarinet...
Needless to say, They are Gone now. :(
I liked that place. Picks, VHS tapes, Tuners, Lessons! And real nice people. |

But remember spending weeks trying to figure out a damn song, then running across the music and seeing it is played in an alternate tuning. I've come up with some very creative, but completely wrong, ways of playing some songs. It keeps it fun, though. |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Darkbar, I guess that's one of the reasons I'd rather figure them out for myself. The challenge, plus it is MY arrangement. Being a poor singer, I always had to put the melody in there too to make it sound like the song. It taught me how to really play guitar. |

Location: Portland, OR | I have quite a collection of books.. I love using the tab websites, but when I really love a song or album, and want an accurate tab, I just get the book. In actuality though, I love just picking up the random song off of a tab site.. I probably use the web 85-90% of the time, and on those special occassions for a really good album, then I break out the bucks for the book.. Some books I can think of off top of my head include Red Hot Chilli Peppers - blood sugar sex magic, Metallica - that metallica album, A few smashing pumpkins albums, A beck album that had alternate tunings that web tabs never got right, James Taylor greatest hits.. |

Location: Sunshine State, Australia | About 10 months ago, I bought 4 DVDs from the LickLibrary range - Fretboard Navigator 1 & 2 and 'Guitar Aerobics' beginner & intermediate.
In 10 months, I've only looked at the first 10 minutes of beginner aerobics. Just don't seem to get the time to get the TV and DVD player to myself.
I also recently bought a lesson on line for 'Never Going Back Again.' It cost me about 3 bucks, but it got me playing a song I've been trying to learn for a decade. I don't play it very good, but that's my fault, not the instructor's.
I've also picked up an awful lot of 'pointers' from YouToob. |

Now I try and find online. There are some sites you might have to pay a fee and others are free.
Also some of the TABs aren't that accurate. |

Now I try to find the chords online for free. usually can.
I was never good at figuring things out. After several years of classes and learning some theory it's easier cause you know where it should go to for the changes. |

| Paid? Now I just figure it out by ear, I essentially always did but it wasn't as easy when I was a kid just starting. So I'd just go to music store, find a book with the song that had me stumped, go to the offending part and memorize it, put the book back in the rack and my work there was done. |
