since I just found this site and started doing some research on my guitar, I can't seem to match the characteristics with the model type.

I have a Custom Balladeer with the red serial number "771". All of the pics and descriptions I see show an early "deluxe" as having a small sound hole and a rosewood bridge with three m-o-p dots on the bridge. Mine has a large sound hole and the same rosewood bridge but no mother- of-pearl inlays on it. I know the serial is correct because not only does it have the "red" label, but the base of the neck is also stamped "771" (as veiwed through the sound hole)

Did they make other variations or is this just a factory mistake.

thanks in advance,
Rick C.

Thanks for the welcome...didn't think a pic would help since the rosette has been removed...I lent it to my brother for a week and five years later....I got it back in less than pristine conditon! Without the rosette it would be hard to see the size of the sound hole. Also, the machine heads are off..they are the exposed gears with white knob type (12 string)...
I have a photo in my phone that I can send along later...but it ain't pretty!

Welcome. You might be surprised what the folks here can figure out from a bad photo of an ugly guitar.

Nope, he worked at Kaman. Was shop supervisor of the Musical Instrument Division, where your uncle was the purchasing manager.

Was Rick's Uncle the one that ordered all the too thin pickguard screws, the potentiometers and other parts that you can't find any where else?

Just kidding... welcome Rick!
