I googled "Guitar Chord Keys" and variations of the same. No luck.
I'm looking for a cheat sheet that shows what chords work in what keys.
I checked Matt Smith's Chop Shop book, too.

Well, the 1, 4, 5 always work and the 2 minor and 3 minor and 6 minor and of course the 7th, which really is the flatted 7th, otherwise it would be the maj7 and that doesn't always work unless you're at the Ritz and everything else is Maj7 too.

Go to zentao.com. They have the best guitar site I have found. Click on guitar lessons. You will find a wealth of information.

I have one somewhere that I think I wrote out back in the 70s. Sure had a lot more time then before Gore invented the internet. I didn't have anything better to do, like spend Saturday watching Hamer factory tour videos.

OOPS! That won't get you there. Google stonedragon. That will bring you to the free guitar lessons. It still says zentao.com, but you won't have to wade through all the crap.

Brad, I asked Darby, he said that any of them will work with all the others except the Gmaj7. That only works on Freebird.

Beal,

I'm trying to remember the Gm9 you showed me at the Smokey's Jam. I'm playing it on a couple of songs but have to keep looking up on my Planet Waves chord finder.

Here's an easy method:

Find a key that works for your range (you can always tell 'cause the tune ends on that chord).

By ear, you can then ID the main notes that belong to THAT scale. Example in your voice likes E, just scoot up the low E to find the roots of E major (open, 2nd fret, 4th, 5th, 7th etc), or minor..

The chords you need will then BE these notes with chords attached:

1st step = major chord (E major)
2nd step = minor chord
3rd step = minor chord

got cut off....

The chords you need will then BE these notes with chords attached:

1st step = major chord (E major)
2nd step = minor chord (F# min)
3rd step = minor chord (G# min)

4th step = major chord (A major)
5th step = major or 7th (B 7)

6th step = minor
7th step = probably don't need it

I can't take the credit. GH1 posted it further up. I just quoted to thank him.

At least you've found a key you can play in.
