Can be done but probably not worth it on an 80's Strat.
Older yes!!
Buy a licenced Fender replacement or look out for an original 80's Maple neck.
They sometimes come up on the Bay

Location: Minden, Nebraska | I saw a webpage a couple of years ago detailing a step by step Strat neck truss rod replacement. It required removing the fretboard. It was on a true vintage Strat from the 60's, so worth it. You have to be the judge on whether yours is.
Your description of the 12th fret does make it sound like the truss rod broke. Sometimes the tr nuts strip, and they can be replace easily. If that were the case, I could probably help you out with a new one out of my parts box.
Sorry to hear the bad news. |
