I am looking at a used guitar with a solid spruce top that looks like it it been dragged down a rough gravel road. I don't know what the hell the guy did to it, but he obviously didn't beleive it babying his investment.
Anyway, it otherwise is a fine guitar...it's a 2004 Alvarez Yairi DY84C that sold for $1600+. I can get this for under $400.
BUT.....can this top be saved. What's involved in getting it back in good shape?
Thanks, experts. |

Tone may be lost by removing the finish as well.
You may be able to "spot" polish some of the areas and then hand buff but getting close to the Bridge will be tough.
Is the AY finished in Lacquer? |

I posted a quick "how to" on this thread . dvd posted a comprehensive tutorial that's pinned at the top of the For Sale section, but a lot of that refers to the Member's Gallery on this site that no longer exists. All pictures & other media were moved to the OFC social networking site . |

| Back on topic, Woody's got it right. Not a task for
hesitation and low self-confidence.
I have a Larrivee that I'd like to try refinishing the top at some point in the future. I think I'll wait until I have a replacement for it, tho. Maybe next year if & when I pick up a Collings I'll try my hand at home luthiery. |

It's free but you have to register to use it. You can resize your photo there as well then just copy the "img" file from the drop down menu under your photo, and paste it in a new message. It's pretty easy...I haven't used it in about a year and my account was still active and, more importantly, I still was able to figuree it out!
