Mine is slowly opening up ( meaning the top is getting run in as opposed to any horrid cracking ;) ) probably due to the fact that it's been my goto guitar for a while. It's getting bloody good Adrian Legg exposure that's for sure (now on my 4th Legg tune). I'm convinved it's getting louder and resonating more, perhaps I'm just getting better (in fact I know I am). I tried to buy a 2nd one (for a backup) on Evilbay recently but the price was a little too high. I *really* like the 07C, the only thing I would like is to swap out the VIP for a PRO STUDIO (work in progress). As as aside I am really getting quite excited by the eventual arrival of the wide neck 97C. So if anyone has a 07C going 'cheap' let me know.

I'm seriously considering updating the electronics on the 1619 I just sent to the mothership and have been trying to decide which to upgrade to.

I thought that maybe it was just my hallucinating but the top seems to opening up slmost daily and it seems to sound better every time I play it. I really like the VIP. I spent several hours torturing my family by A/Bing the same tunes with all the images. I have found one which I really like(3).It seems to work well on most of the tunes that I have been playing lately. So, I give 2 thumbs way up for this guitar.

The Studio has a compressor and an excitor in it. For me, either for live performances plugged in or for recording, the Studio is far more useful. Here are some sound samples from a while ago, all done on my '07C. First is an overview of the VIP images. VIP demo in \'07C Next is a comparison of VIP vs Studio. You'll have to suffer through my fingerstyle but you'll hear the difference. First section is clean, second time it is VIP, third is Studio, and last is clean again. All were recorded sequentially with the preamps just quickly swapped out. So everything is the same except for the preamps. VIP vs Studio comparison

I don't know if the VIP could be adjusted to a better sound or not though. The VIP did seem to pick up a lot of excess noise from the guitar. Nice job on the recording though ... You sound great.

It also sounds better with less effect mixed in. With tweaking it can sound closer to a mic'd acoustic guitar, and as mentioned by Steve A, image 3 is pretty good. I think that is a deep bowl Adamas emulation. I don't know if the VIP could be adjusted to a better sound or not though. The VIP did seem to pick up a lot of excess noise from the guitar. But in the end, to me it just sounds like a mic'd guitar at best. For recording, if I want it mic'd I'll just mic it. For live performance the compressor really helps a lot. The excitor does add some warmth and woodiness to it. For live performances with the VIP I was not using the images and I was running it through a compressor.

I've posted this before - I had an informal playoff of all of my guitars and the judge (Kimby-D) picked the 2007. There is something special in these guitars.

(I usually rotate them out each week) I have to say that it sure did sound sweet coming through the system, and even after practice I couldn't stop playing her. I have to agree that I am especially impressed with that guitar. If anyone reading this is looking to get into a good USA Ovation for the first time, I think these are an extremely good deal right now. As far as the preamp discussion goes, I too use image 3. MY only problems with the VIP are the price and the way they seem to eat batteries. (I know ... you have to unplug your guitar after use)
