I have a model 1651 Legend Limited which appears to have been manufactured in either 1980 or 81, I seemed to have gotten conflicting information on the date. The serial number is 212477 which would make it 1980 according to one chart I found. It is a sweet old guitar,, gold tuners, stereo, etc... It has had a crack on the face since I have owned it, never gotten worse or affected the playability but I was sorta looking around online to see if it was repairable or even worth doing. as I said, it has never affected the playability. So, any input or information would be appreciated.

The Mothership (Ovation Factory) has been known to work wonders on top cracks, if they're only in the finish and not through the wood. The thick finishes on the older O's are notorious for thier cracks from the bridge to the back of the git. My 1617 has one... I don't worry about mine.

Third, do a bit of searching for repairs here and you'll find that the MotherShip (Ovation) does incredible restoration work. BTW, is that your only Ovation? Regardless, it's the one before the next; if we have anything to do with it! ;)

If it does, I'll echo what the others have said about Mother - they are absolute magicians with restorations, and I speak from multiple experience in that regard. BTW, they're the only guitar manufacturer that does that kind of work. We want pics!

I had one in the mid seventies that I bought new and had to sell a few years later so I could eat while in grad school. I have a five year old american strat, a 69 les paul studio custom I bought a few years ago from goodwill (she was in bad shape}, a no name classical, an Oscar Schmidt acoustic/elec. , and old Pennco acoustic circa 1978 a les paul copy, and a few other old no name copies.

My 1111-4 from the early 70's has an extra "sound vent" from an unfortunate incident years ago. The Mothership repaired her, and did a marvelous job. It has never affected her tone or playability, and she is an extra special ol' lady of a guitar. I was going to have Mother replace the top, but was talked out of it because it was reparable (a straight line from the bridge to the purfling.) This is a great place to visit--you'll learn lots about Ovations, and just about everything else guitarish as well. --Karen
