My first real guitar was an Ovation Celebrity that my girl friend (now my wife) bought for me on our 4th anniversary of going steady in '85. I still have that guitar and it has brought me many years of faithful service. Since then I have acquired another, newer, Celebrity with the epaulets as well as a Elite Special S868, with the natural top. I love this guitar and it has been my main "player" for the past 5 years. What has me searching the Internet right now is I have been told of a great deal on a brand new Elite Custom C778 LX RTD. My son takes lessons at a music store. I mentioned to the manager that I might be interested in moving up to the next level of Ovation. He checked the inventory of the stores in the chain and found this LX in a different store. He said that it was special ordered and never picked up. It lists for 1999.99 but I was told that I could get it for 999.99 as they wanted to move it out. After much research on the web, I believe that this is truly a great opportunity. I would love to hear your opinions on this. In order to buy this guitar, I am forced to sell my Elite Special. I paid about $600 for this guitar. It is in fantastic shape and plays beautifully. I am sure that you folks can appreciate what I am talking about. I have searched for another one for sale to see what they are asking for them, but the only ones I could find were in Australia and selling for 2999 Aussie Dollars. The current exchange rate puts this at about 2000 American dollars. Wow! I can't imagine that they are selling for that much money. I am thinking that if I am lucky I can sell it for about $500 in a classified or an auction. Does anyone happen to know approximately what these guitars might be worth? I know that someone may ask me to post pictures. I will be happy to tomorrow, but I am unable to right now. It is 12:30 at night and I am about to go to bed. Any ways, I am sure that this is a great site with many knowledgeable people that I will learn much from. I have been in a couple other groups, one for Bearded Dragons, and the other for V8 motorcycles. I found both to be great communities of folks with similar passions. Topics were both fun and stimulating. I look forward to spending some time here. Hoss

I have had this fantasy of taking USA Ovations overseas to finance a little trip. As to selling an S868... To me, that is the same as an Elite. But it is kind of a down-market right now. Unless you are really patient.

I am surprised to see that of the responses to my thread so far approx half are from Australia. Cool. That is to bad that you guys are getting extorted in order to enjoy your music. Weaser is from Cicero. You may have eaten my cooking before. I own Romans Pizza. I used to have a shop on Route 11 across from Walmart and in the plaza next to the new Dunkin Donuts. How much does it cost to ship to Australia? Should I consider listing it on Ebay.com.au ? I would like it to sell quickly so that I can pay for the Elite Custom LX. Now that I have decided to buy the LX, I am like a spoiled kid that can't wait to have it in his hands. Hard to concentrate on other things. It is always hovering in the back of my mind. Hoss

It's bad enough to suffer this 'affliction' alone but now you'll have to endure additional 'OFC peer pressure' for pics and reports! :D And to the Ovation Universal Family!

When I got on board here I saw that I was way past the 4000th member! And now you are just under the 7000 wire. It's a generous and hospitable group.

And bring pizza with you next time. We love pizza. But don't be surprised when you show up with the pizza boxes if someone says "the drummer is here". ;)

[Side note to everyone else - Hoss's shop is about two miles from my house.] And it was very good pizza too if I recall. You should have fun here - great resource if you're looking for information and lots of fun if you're not. Stick around and don't be shy!

I am confused, it is also called ovation fan club, but has a different URL and I was required to get another membership. Well here is the link: http://ovationfanclub.ning.com/profile/Hossman These pictures are of the Special Elite S868 that I plan to sell. I don't have any pictures of the Elite Custom C778LX just yet as it is in another state. But there are many pics of this model online.

Back east, NOBODY but a tourist would lower themselves to eat there. Actually, Degiourno rising crust pizza from the grocery store is the only kind I buy now. I could make my own, but a conventional oven in the home doesn't get hot enough to do it right. Oh how I wish I could find SOMETHING good to eat here!

(Plus, nobody knows what 'grits' are... Or Real Bar-B-Q) Their idea of good pizza out here is arguing over Round Table vs. Domino's. [Quizno's vs. Subway, Panda Express vs. China Wok, Taco Bell vs. Taco Time, Seattle's Best vs. Portland Coffee Company] I miss Joe's Pizza off of Harvard Square. Joe was a nice guy proud of his little place. NO HAWAIIAN PIZZA! (although I actually like Hawaiian pizza, Joe woulda been appalled!)
