First I'd like to introduce myself.
I'm new on this club. A 30-year old guy from the Netherlands. I teach music at a school in Groningen and I'm also a classical organist.
I own a 1997 collectors edition, serial number 0547. It has it's wear, and lacquer-cracks but it's sounds great! Absolutely stunning sound for such a small guitar. I bought it for only €450,- from an Irish singer-songwriter. It was his main gig-guitar so it was used very intensive. Maybe I'll have it cosmetically restored someday... but I think that'll cost too much. 
Are there more Ovation 1997 Parlor-owners up here?
And what are your experiences? |

Yes there are several very satisfied '97C owners here. And I'm one of the lucky ones that owns one!
It's the only 'parlor' sized US Ovation made. What you get out of this guitar is superb.

It's the only 12-fret US-made parlor, but there were at least 2 later variants which had a 14 fret necks and paddle headstocks, at least 1 of which didn't have the stupid TS preamp. There were also a couple of Celeb versions, incuding one for the Hawaiian market with a laminated koa top and palm tree epaulettes (to match the ukes, presumably) I think there may also have been a handful of USA made parlors for the Japanese market with different specs to the 97. |

Location: Warren,Pa. | I had one, sold it to someone here (I forget who...was it you Noah?), and a bunch of friends (my congregation) bought another one for me as a 50th birthday present.
The electronics stopped working and, on advice from Kim at the Ovation service dept., removed the original setup. I installed an OpPro in it's place. I've had about 2 years to live with this new arrangement, and I've come to this conclusion: Plugged in, it sounds as great as any other Ovation plugged in; when NOT plugged in, it has lost a little of it's sound character with that preamp taking up all that space in there. It's also noticeably heavier. If I had it to do again I think I'd install an endpin switchjack/preamp with no controls just to keep it lightweight and to preserve the original sound. Oh well...I still love to play it!

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | LOVE these guitars! Mine came from eBay and is even more flawless than the original owner described. Lovely tone, and I don't even mind the TS pre-amp. I kinda like the stealth concept.

| Absolutely - I'm thinking of hauling all my Os (1537, 1538, 1619, 87C) and As (1687, 08C), plus the Tak Nashville for darkbar.
I guess we should stop hijacking this thread :p
Back to a discussion of Ovation Parlors... I'm looking forward to seeing iffy's Parlor - haven't had the chance to play one yet. |

I think you can use most any type of string you want. |
