I would like to know of what you think of the adamas on 2080, for those who have it one or those who have already played it. What sound has it, with regard to an adamas I or an elite? Thanks to those who can help me.

Can't speak for the regular 2080 but the baritone version is excellent. Nice full even sound across the spectrum.

The 2080 Baritone is one of the best guitars I have ever played.

I agree with the baritone comments, but to me the regular Adamas I or II is better than the standard 2080.

But the 2080 looks sooo cool!

Played and listened to them, better than the gloss top carbons.

I have an Adamas II and two (2!) Adamas 2080's. Both models are just wonderful. The Adamas II is a real boomer, with a lightning-fast fingerboard. The 2080 has a rounder, velvety, more even sound from low to high. The II is brighter at the low end and louder at the high end. The 2080 tone is buttery smooth from bottom to top. The II is the guitar for fireworks...I put that in my hands, and several people have on different occasions laughed and called me "Al DiMeola." It's the 2080 for a more soulful, contemplative sound. Both are gorgeous, gorgeous instruments! All this, of course, just my humble opinion.

I had a 2080 and for comparisons I did in the past, I had my 1537, W597, and 2008 Collector.

The 2080 has a lot of the characteristics of most Adamas in that the highs are clearly defined, similar to the 597. It was louder, then any prior guitar I have owned as far as sheer projection and volume. It was NOT as strong in the mid-range like the 1537, and as such, although it had a very articulate sound, it was not a wood top. The one thing the 2080 excelled at other than volume was the bottom end. That thing had some serious thump going from the bass side.

The 2008 Collector has a much more refined sound with a very balanced output across the treble/mid/bass ranges, but does not have the sheer volume and bass power that the 2080 had.

Part of me thinks I should have sold my 1537 and kept the 2080 as a match to the 2008C since the two, while similar, were very different.

Would I buy another 2080? If I ever lost my 2008C, I might just because they are going so darn cheap right now (lost my shorts on mine) for a very fine guitar.

I have never played an AI or II, but if the 2008C is any indication, the 2080 is definately worth what you can buy them for used. Well...other than the VIP electronics, but that is another topic.

This is interesting stuff. I have a kid dividend coming up, ie, the last one is finishing school soon.

I was toying with the idea of getting a Martin dread (again) vs rolling the dice and ordering a 2080 from Al. I say rolling the dice because there's no place within several hundred miles that I can go play one.

From the descriptions I see above, plus what I've read previously, it might be worth the gamble. If nothing else it'll be way cheaper than the Martin, and the pre-amp will already be installed.

I have a 12-fret Adamas that you can sorta call a 2080. Actually, the only thing similar to the 2080 is the cat-eye sound hole.

12 fret
Slothead
Textured top
Medium Bowl
OpPro Studio
Nickname:Cootie

I 'special ordered' a different guitar and this is what I got. Its a good thing because this is much better. The sound is amazing. Do a search for 'cootie' and you will find photos and soundbites.

I like the cootie better than the Adamas II that I had previously.

I had a 2080 for a while. Great guitar.

Doc, weren't you toying with the idea of selling yours a while back?

I sold my 2080 to Damon - he sure made it sound better than I could. I found I like my older 1778T just as much and I don't worry about it as much ($$$$$) only thing I didn't like was the missing multipiece neck - no reason other than the looks of the 5 piece neck -

also lost my ars selling it, my policy seems to be buy high and sell low -
