How about some info on this guitar. Old Johnny sure has seemed to aged a bit. Are we all getting old??? GWB

I heard he is in pretty poor health these days. Some friends of mine saw him in a really tiny local blues club. They said he had trouble walking and seemed like he was in pain. I think he was having a bad night. He was on the latest Clapton Crossroads Concert DVD doing Highway 61. He sounded pretty damn good. If I remember correctly Derek Trucks was playing with him.

Many well known guys like Clapton etcetera are really just imitators when it comes to playing/singing blues. Johnny Winter is the real thing in the same way that Robert Johnson and Lightnin Hopkins are the real thing. Once Winter is gone there won't be another one like him.

Actually, it's a fairly close copy to a Steinberger. It is a lot lighter than a regular solidbody electric. It is also small in size, yet has a full length scale. The tuners work well, and it does stay in tune better than standard tuners. I am not a trem fan, so I never use it. But it does lock the trem if you like. The pickups are neutral and only moderate output. It is fine for running through a pedal or processor to get any kind of sound that you like, but by itself it is very neutral. It is actually a good thing if you want versatility. I've replaced all 3 pickups with DiMarzios to get some "typical" sounds without having to process it. It is a great travel guitar. For playing on your lap it has a little stand that flips out of the bottom, which works pretty well as long as you use an angled plug on your guitar cable. The guitar with headphone amp/effects box and MP3 player: ![]()

I used to own a Steinberger GP (yet another guitar I shouldn't have sold) which was very light, and extremely comfortable to play sitting down. Do you fly with that setup, FlySig? I wonder what TSA would do when all those wires and cables went through the scanner. Heh.

To me it looks like I would have to retrain myself to not have my chord hand slide off the end of the neck.GWB

I saw Johnny live a few times back in the 70's. That tune was a real show stopper! Still Alive and Well and Nothin' But the Blues are also great albums.

It's more of a problem when playing country lead while trying to slide on or off of notes on the first couple of frets.
