CSN?
The Eagles?
Bob Seger?
Jackson Browne?
Melon-head?

Then, he sez about these artists "Nobody Really Hates Them"...
No, I don't HATE Elvis... But I would Never listen to Any of his songs if I had a choice.

I'm about 50/50 on this one, possibly 60/40 for the list.

I always get a chuckle out of this sort of stuff. Unless somebody invents a subjective-to-quantitative converter it's all just meaningless.

Heck there's half that list that I wouldn't put in my top 1000. But that's just me.

HUGE apologies! I don't like any of 'em...

I do have a mildly funny story, based purely on my own preferences...

I remember that Paul McCartney was once playing somewhere in New York City, and I live somewhat close by. A friend of mine called excitedly and blurted out that he had managed to score two $500 tickets, either from a scalper or a legit purveyor. I politely congratulated him on his triumph, and he went on his way.

Ruminatin' and cogitatin' just a bit. I realized that I wouldn't even have gone for free. Then, I started a-thinkin' a bit more and wondered how mcuh someone would have to pay ME to go through the hassle of getting to New York City, parking, wading through throngs of people to the venue, and being uncomfortable at worst, or bored at best during the concert.

Then, of course, there's the whole hassle of getting home at 3:00 am, being bushed at work the next day, and so on, and so on, and drearily so on. I came up with a figure. $2,000 would get me to go through all that.

Talk about illustrating the subjective, eh?!?!?

Someone just asked me which was more fun to drive, my wife's car or mine. I told him I wasn't going to attempt to quantify "fun."
I can, however, quantify the "love" I have for any of those bands--zero.
Alan, I understand where you're coming from. It may be a factor of age. Two of the best concerts I attended recently were cheap and within one block of my office. I think that will be my standard from now on.

A neighbor of mine who's son is a rather good highschool football player commented that Rivals.com ranked him as the highschool "18th best tightend" in the country.

I asked, "so what would it take to move up to 17? The father was speechless.

That kind of list, I'd be disappointed if my favourites showed up. I prefer to think I'm somewhat obscure and contrary.

XTC
NRBQ
Mana (from Guadalajara)
The Payola$

....okay, I'll give you The Beatles, but that's a gimmee anytime something like this comes up.
....and when did Neil Young become a group?

I guess the starting point is the idea of ICONIC or MAINSTREAM. It's like asking, "What's your favorite chocolate?" with the choices only Hershey's and Nestle. I personally love Hendrix, Beatles, Neil Yong, Stevie W., AC/DC, Zep but....

My REAL music ain't there: Miles, Coltrane, Vishnu, Shatki, Steely Dan, The Doors, Most early ECM releases

Gotta love a list, tho!

"...but The Ramones above Hendrix???"

That was personal preference of the writer... I'm guessing.

But liking the Ramones is a fad... Like Che Guevara T-shirts.
People wear Ramones T-shirts, but don't listen to their music.

[When I was living on the streets I traded a ratty Ramones T-shirt for $20 and another black T-shirt to some yuppie-scum who had probably never been to a Ramones concert in his life! nor owned one of their albums... :p ]

I disagree, fill. I don't think you're as contrary as I am. Obscure, maybe, but I can't really tell.

Last time I checked, Aretha Franklin wasn't a 'band.' Neither was Elvis or Stevie. Neil Young you could argue.

Point is, this isn't some arbitrary list of favorite bands, it's an arbitrary list of singers and musicians, some of whom were in bands.

And . . . AND . . This list IS arbitrary. It seems to be nothing more than Rob O'Connor's blog list, whoever he is. Not a poll or cross section. I'm confident if somebody actually took the time to set up a ballot, that the list would look a lot different — except for the Beatles at #1.

Yep. Solid agreement. My feeling: anytime I can persuade my buddy Frank Varela (JMHO: one of the finest guitarists I have ever heard) to play, I believe I have attended a very, very fine concert. One that I would pay for, and that, sadly, will not appear on any lists anywhere.

The Beatles are the only one of my faves on the list. Others that I like are Kansas, Eagles, Toto and LeRoux. I went to a concert back in the 70's for not much of any reason other than nothing else goin' on and it was cheap. Even paid the at the door price. Not a very big crowd. Was absalutely amazed. Became an instant BIG fan of those guys. Great talent. Seals and Crofts.

LOL... Aside from AC/DC the other 9 on the list could be removed from my collection and I wouldn't even notice.

However if I had to put a list together of my LEAST favorite groups.. I think those other 9 would lead the list.

I agree... just Another Pointless List.

I don't think I would know a Ramone song if it hit me in the head.
