Location: PDX | Ovations are made with carbon fiber, so are these guitars. I used to own a 97C but sold it to Andrew about a year ago. The one thing i really liked about that guitar was the small size.
CA has a 3/4 model called the Cargo. Anybody have any experience with this guitar? I was thinking about picking one up to throw in the back of the pick-up as a work guitar.
I saw that Jeff W. took a picture of one and posted it to the ning site a while ago. I sent him a PM but was curious to see if anybody else had any reviews of these guitars here.

The funny thing is how the wooden guitar guys are all starting to play these things and act like they are the first to discover something other than wood. f@cking stove knitters! |

| TJ had (note the past tense ;) ) a Cargo that I got to play at SSJ-II. Great sound, acoustically and plugged in, especially for its size. If I wanted a travel guitar that would probably be it. |

I added another reply over at ning. The short scale is very easy to get used to and the most beautiful thing is they have a 1-3/4nut so, it doesn't feel cramped.
And as I said, you won't believe the sound they pump-out. It's really kinda freaky. |

Location: Central Massachusetts | Greg, Five Star Guitars has two in stock.. both charcoal, one with electronics, one without. They're on 185th right off of Hwy 26. I really liked the feel of it when I tried it out a few days ago.
I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I had the cash. Unfortunately they just raised the price on them. |

The one i JUST BOUGHT is used. Got what i think is a smokin' deal at $775. I can't really afford it either but it just seemed like too good of a deal to pass up.
you can have visiting privileges, but you knew that already :)

Location: PDX | Just as a follow-up. The Cargo came in yesterday. What a fun little guitar! And i mean LITTLE. This will be real easy to take anywhere -- exactly what i was looking for.
The tone is perfectly serviceable -- not stellar but serviceable. Who knows what i can coax out of it while experimenting with strings. It came with mediums of an unknown brand. For such a small guitar the volume is huge. It could be due to the off-set sound hole.
Jeff was right in his description. The extremely small scale is quite nicely compensated by the generous 3/4" fretboard. It doesn't feel cramped at all, except past the 9th fret. There, things get a bit tight.
I really like the sleek design and construction. It's kind of sexy, in a cute way. The compound cut-away is really ingenious. The anodized black Gotoh tuners are a nice touch, and operate very smoothly. It tends to be a bit neck heavy, but it hardly weighs anything - it's just an issue of balance.
I think i am going to be on the hunt for one of the GXi's. These folks have made a really nice guitar. Trader Jim told me he left his in the trunk in the summer, was worried he had melted it. But when he pulled it out it was good as new, just couldn't hold it because it was so darn hot. :)

Location: Earth·SolarSystem·LocalInterstellarCloud·Local Bub | I agree, it being "Neck Heavy"... actually, "NeckJoint Heavy" - makes it feel a bit "heavy" for it's size but, it's FRIGGIN' teensy, yet, plays and sounds like a much larger guitar...
Nothing else, save that tiny Washburn Palor Anniversary, Ciiff and I strummed, sounds even close. And that guitar would not "travel" and was longer.... and had that funky wide "\/" shaped neck.
My Cargo has been stowed in my car for more than a month in a gig bag... used as needed... visited, Al - survived ! ...and earlier tonight, was less than a semitone out on the "G". |
