I cleaned it up, put a new battery in it, removed the 1 and 1/3 shim from under the pickup, wiped out the bowl inside, marveled at the incredible CWK signed label and low serial number, put a fresh set of Elixir Phos. Brnz. Nano Med's on it, tuned it up and played it...very nice. I doubt if the guitar has been played in over 6 years and the Martin Marquis strings were certainly that old at least. The case is good and servicable; in the case pocket are the original stereo Y-cord, assorted picks, old string wrappers (now gone), two orange scotty's string winders, and a leather strap w/embroidered stiching and patterns (60's and 70's vintage) w. the original Ovation logo on it, ...all in all a time capsule. The guitar is in fine original shape:the neck and headstock do not have a mark on them anywhere. The slight lifting of bowl paint on either side of the neck is not serious the pictures make it look much worse than it is...The neck needs just a bit of adjusting (I'll get to it later) and the rest is fine! Today is dreary: rain changing to snow so I'll wait till Monday or so to take some better pic's: in the meantime enjoy these: Pic\'s Moody, Johnny, and Jerome, thank you one and all!!!!! Also this is my 3000th post...entirely too much time spent on the computer...lol. I'll worry about that when I hit ten...lol Enjoy every one...

What am I talking about, I'm still busy... BTW, the strap is really cool: I haven't seen another like it: I'll take a pic of it too.

Oh, and I think the sig is actually a CHK ... not sure but I think it's the other one that purportedly drags down the resale value, so you got lucky. ;) Definitely post pics of the strap ... that sounds super cool.

I coulda kept it and you'd never have known. Nah, somebody woulda leaked word to my mom and I'd be in all kinds of trouble. Glad your happy with it Mikey. Told you it was structurally sound. Wong has a couple of Adamii like it his office and for whatever reason, they are some of the best sounding guitars he has.....

Body Front: Headstock: (needs detailing) Finally the Flawless Neck: I'll take beauty shots when the weather gets getter and warmer... I played this guitar for several hours this afternoon and this evening...it can get LOUD and yet sutble and lovely depending on how its played...Hands down the cornerstone of my collection! Adamas 1687-8 #189-89 May 1978... ;)

BTW, I've never seen epaulet covers before. Excuse my ignorance, but what is their primary function? (Thinking they would offer more protection during transport, but not sure.) -Paul

It may be that when he was playing live, he used them to prevent feedback and enable him to play louder. I have seen homemade ones for Elite guitars but these appear to have been factory produced, perhaps at his request. In any event they are very well made...and predate the soundhole plugs that are available now. marenostrum, it is almost a surreal experience for me...If only it could talk...although it uses its musical voice very well...Several times while playing it yesterday I stopped and looked at it and said a thank you for my friends here that helped me to get this and for the chance to rescue it and to give it a good home...awesome!

Karl, I thought it should have the dot knobs...I asked Al and he seemed to think that it was the practice to use what ever they had at the time...The electronics are original however there is a problem w/the p/u...half of it will not work in either stereo or mono so I will be sending it to the mothership for their expert touch...I would really like to get a set of dot knobs for this if anyone has a set or knows where one can be found... Dave, the mojo from this guitar is so cool... and yes, it does have the vintage "smack" Karl...(I'm guessing vibe/smell/feel all contribute to "smack"... It is an incredible instrument...pardon my goosebumps... I am not worthy! But, I'll get over it... ;)
