I agree. I don't play well either. Never did electric rock stuff. But it is the function of how well you listen to what's going on around you. What I like to do is figure out what isn't there whether it's a level of harmony or finger or other picking, and judge what will sound good with the music. You have to listen.

I recently discovered this myself. I just started playing with a couple of fellows. None of us have ever played in a band before. One of the songs we're working on is "Down on the Corner" by CCR. I've had to work hard to ignore the way I usually play it and stick with their groove.

Not really a musician. I'm just a strummer.
