Next time I back pack my guitar on my bike (a giant mountain bike that is) I'll have my wife take a picture.

Legs went around the end of the cases and held them against the frame. I was a bit splayed, but we were going for function here, not style, and I had good contact with the pegs. I was concerned about the exhaust on the right side, but the exhaust shield protects the case from the heat of the pipe and it never became hot to the touch.

Excellent. I could tell the case would probably be all right against the heat shield, but I was a bit worried that you were hanging onto those pegs by your toes.

Did it handle ok with that weight hanging off the back, or was the steering a little squirrelly?

Steering is expectedly light, but this model has a centrifigal clutch to go along with its 4-speed trans, so over acceleration (as in the amount required to pull the front wheel off the ground) isn't a problem. At city speeds, the handling wasn't a problem. Keep in mind that the total gear as packed was less than 100 pounds, and most of the weight was down low, so it is actually a little better than having a relatively small passenger sitting on the back.

A Honda 90 was my first "motorcycle". I had it 3 days when the crankcase broke. My mother told me she told me so constantly, until my wife took over that job.

A little over 100 mpg. Yeah right. I average about 18 running around town and short rides.

About 14 - 15 if I am riding it hard or averaging 70mph or so.

But really, we don't buy bikes like this one for the mileage. It has the aerodynamics of a cinder block and as many cubic inches as my Chevy Suburban. For mileage stick with Prof.BB's :D

Bikes like that are made for only one thing.

...ok, two things, if you include going fast...

Say, Oz, are you a postman down south? I understand that the post still runs on CT90s, or did for many years. My tires have "Australian Postal Service" inscribed on the side.

I can solve the leg space problem.

Get rid of the helmet, buy a long hair wig, put some "Ape Hangers" on that puppy, a set of foot pegs way up high, lean back on the amp, slip on the cheap sun glasses and Ryyyde Baaabee Ryyyde.
Now that would be a KODAK moment!

You're right Professor. I'm the local postman in my little village. Those bikes are used Australia wide and with the cost of fuel there's now a pretty good market for used ones, particularly with the younger generation. They might not go fast, but they go far.

Sometimes delivering the mail here doesn't seem like a job to me. With the ocean and the sunshine I can sometimes feel like I'm just out riding for fun.

I never knew of the inscription on the tyres. I'll have a look today.

Couldn't see "Australian postal Service" anywhere but the label under the seat says it's a CT 110 ----- feel the power :D

I thought it was a CT 90 as well.

The CT110 model replaced the CT90 in the late 1970s. No big changes, just bored out the engine a little. I'll try and grab a pic of the tire inscription this weekend.

That's really interesting Professor. Were those tyres on the bike when you got it? There's definitely nothing on the bike I ride for work.

Oz, I bought the tires new on eBay for $60/pair, which also included new tubes. I'm sure they're made in China. Maybe some official in the Postal Service rejected them because of the misspelling, and then some entrepreneur picked up a couple of containers of otherwise decent tires on the cheap and is now selling them piecemeal on the net. There's thousands of these bikes still on the road so I'm sure there's a market for the tires.
