Sometimes I feel like such a noob but I need some clarification. Can someone tell me the differences between the FD-14, 1614, and K1114 reissue? I am contemplating selling a nice pistol to fund something but not being able to play and see all of these it is confusing. PS anyone wants to trade for a nice Wilson Combat Custom Colt 45 acp? :) :)

K1114 - reissue of the original Josh White signature model. Wide neck, 12 fret, X braced slothead. The original came out in 1968 (?) and was discontinued in 1969 when White died.

1614 - Acoustic electric version of the same basic guitar but renamed the Folklore after White's death. Came out in 1972 and was built until the early 80's.

FD14 - Run of 50 guitars (built in 2003, I think)in the same basic configuration as the Folklore except it has a cedar, A braced top, and different trim.

Don't know if you can get your hands on one or not, Rich, but IMHO the Fud (FD14) is one of the finest guitars ever put out by Ovation and those that have 'em rarely part with 'em. One in good shape? The perfect guitar - you'd never want to sell it and, if you did, you'd never lose on it.

I've been learning about Ovations and Adamii for a while now and I am still amazed at the knowledge within this group.

Ditto, I was thinking the same thing as I read this thread. Amazing knowledge here.

Thanks Dave.

I thought so but wasn't sure. I've had several chances to buy one of these but had to pass. :(

Since there were only 50 made does anyone know where all of them are?

Thanks for all the info. This place is a wealth of knowlege (at least about Ovations :) )

Anyone know if the nut width is the same for all three?
According to the history page the 1614 is X braced and Moody said the K1114 is also. Am I correct to assume the FD-14 uses the x bracing as well?

The nut width on the K and the 1614 is 1 7/8", the FD is 1 3/4" ...and I thought they were A braced.

The 1-7/8 nut width on my original Josh White feels much more like the 1-3/4 nut width on my Fud... and vastly different than the 1-7/8 nut width on my custom Adamas.

The "1-7/8" on the JW is actually right between 1-7/8 and 1-3/4. And yes, the neck is slightly "deeper" and "rounder"

I like it.
