I don't know if you can do a sunburst with a cedar top? |

Location: Up North | This one has definitely had a checkered past. I'm thinking it needs an infusion of Mojo.
Bridge failed and replaced by Factory
Fretboard lifted - neck replaced by Factory
Bridge failed 2nd time - heading back to Factory
It's referenced as 50/50 in a repair invoice from Factory, but with the neck being replaced, no original serial# to prove it.
Problem is there is already an authenticated 50/50, is there any other indicator on the guitar to tell what the original number was? |

Location: New Hampsha | I was at the MShip last Friday with my 97C and what you can do seems to be limited by your imagination, and the depth of your wallet. I changed the top wood, purfling/binding, and rosette on my 97C.
A Cedar top/and any color burst you want is probably a slam dunk.
How about a carbon top? |

I don't know if you can do a sunburst with a cedar top? I asked that when I had my FD14 rebuilt. John said the burst doesn't work with the cedar top. |

These are all SPECTACULAR guitars but that would be like trying to make a Ferrari a Lamborghini. Upgrade the DI if you're dying to make it "different"; upgrade the color if you must (man, this is killing me...) but PUH-LEEZE don't drop another top on that.

Location: SoCal | I think the question that should be asked is how are you going to use the guitar? Is it going to be just a front porch picker? Are you going to gig with it? etc. The answer to those questions will tell you what you want to do with the guitar, especially regarding electronics.
Are they going to replace the top or just fix it? Replacing the top also means replacing the bowl. If you really want to get wild with it, that opens up all kinds of possibilities as to top wood, bracing, cutway, etc.
But I agree with Weas. The original cedar top is beautiful just the way it is. If it were up to me, the only question would be electronics or no electronics.... |

| +1 with Weaser, +1 with Moody. I feel your pain Grif. I cringed when I read your description of the bridge lifting when you tuned it up. But I'd hate to mess too much with one of the best O's made, your bridge problems notwithstanding. |

Location: SoCal | I don't know why, but probably 3-5 of the 50 FD14's built had their bridges lift off. Something was going on at the factory at that time. Bad glue? |

Location: Up North | Thanks for the opinions everyone, I wasn't really thinking of changing anything, just thought if someone had an idea for improving it that I hadn't heard of before.
Mainly I'm just trying to take my mind off the fact that I've played this guitar a grand total of 30 minutes since I got it, and now it's off to the Factory.
Also wondering if there was any other way to identify which number this was in the 50 made.
It doesn't matter really, because I doubt there will be any original parts left after this repair. (I don't think the glue failed, there is cedar still attached to the bridge, the wood in the top seems to be the culprit). |

Location: SoCal | My 87C is number 210 out of 1000. Of course the neck's been replaced. And of course, the body was replaced, but it's still #210. It says so on the label.
Oh, and by the way, it's still my favorite guitar... |
